xAI (Grok)
xAI is an artificial intelligence company founded in March 2023 by Elon Musk that develops the Grok family of large language models, an API platform, and consumer/enterprise AI products. The company operates the Colossus GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) supercomputer cluster in Memphis, Tennessee, and in March 2025 acquired the social network X in an all-stock transaction. In February 2026, xAI was acquired by SpaceX, combining the two Musk-led entities.
Acquired by SpaceX in February 2026 in a deal reportedly valuing the combined entity at $1.25T. Closed a $20B Series E in January 2026 at a $230B valuation (upsized from $15B target) with participation from Nvidia, Valor Equity Partners, Fidelity, Qatar Investment Authority, MGX, Cisco, and a ~$2B commitment from Tesla. xAI acquired X (formerly Twitter) in March 2025 in an all-stock deal. Operates the Colossus supercomputer in Memphis with plans toward 1M GPUs. Partnership with HUMAIN announced for Saudi Arabia hyperscale GPU data center buildout. Received a U.S. Department of Defense CDAO contract (up to $200M ceiling) for agentic AI in national-security workflows.
