In April 2026, OpenAI closed a record $122B funding round at an $852B post-money valuation, led by Amazon ($50B), SoftBank ($30B), and NVIDIA ($30B). In October 2025, OpenAI completed a major recapitalization, converting to a public benefit corporation (PBC) while the nonprofit OpenAI Foundation retained equity control. On June 8, 2026, OpenAI filed a confidential S-1 with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), initiating a potential IPO process with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as lead banks, targeting a valuation exceeding $1 trillion. In May 2025, OpenAI acquired io, an AI hardware startup led by former Apple designer Jony Ive, for approximately $6.5 billion. The Stargate joint venture — a $500B data-center infrastructure program with SoftBank, Oracle, and MGX — is underway.
