Overview
On August 17, 2026, Alipay hosted its inaugural AI Ecosystem Partner Conference in Hangzhou, where it introduced what it described as China's first comprehensive full-stack agent commercial platform alongside the AHA (Agent Hub Access) multi-agent, cross-device interconnection protocol suite. The platform is operated by Ant Group, Alipay's parent company.
The Ah Bao Agent
Ah Bao, described by Alipay as a super service AI agent, was launched in June 2026 and provides access to more than 10,000 AI-powered everyday services — including utility bill payments, pet service bookings, and electric vehicle charging point searches — through conversational interaction. Retail brands including KFC, Mixue Bingcheng, and Luckin Coffee have integrated their services into Ah Bao, allowing consumers to order and pay directly through the agent.
Cross-device coverage now reaches five smartphone brands representing over 70 percent market share and sixteen leading automakers, with additional partnerships underway for smart glasses, watches, and large-model apps. In July, OPPO partnered with Alipay to enable its AI agent Breeno to help OPPO smartphone users access AI-powered daily life services connected by Ah Bao through conversations.
MCP and AHA Protocol Architecture
The platform relies on two complementary protocol layers. The service operates through Alipay's MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, a technology introduced in April 2025; MCP enables merchants and AI developers to embed Alipay's secure payment capabilities directly into agentic systems. The proprietary AHA protocol system encompasses intelligent interaction standards, agent interconnection protocols, and device perception and execution frameworks.
The AHA protocol supports cross-agent and cross-device interoperability, allowing merchants who complete a single integration with Ah Bao to extend their reach beyond Alipay users to consumers across smartphones, cars, AI glasses, and AI applications.
Merchant Tooling
The offering is built around two tracks. Merchants that already operate digital storefronts but lack AI infrastructure are provided with a one-stop solution that converts existing pages, product listings, and service workflows into agent-ready Skills and MCP tools, intended to lower the technical barrier to AI adoption. Merchants that already run AI-enabled services can instead use the platform for agent creation, skill orchestration, task execution, and operations management, covering areas such as customer insights, product recommendations, and membership management.
Alipay has bundled additional capabilities into the platform, including AI-based payment processing, identity verification, risk management, and service fulfilment.
Developer Incentive Program
To support adoption among individual developers and merchants, Alipay has launched an AI Business Incentive Program. This includes 100 million free tokens per user, subsidies for tokens generated through completed transactions, and reduced payment processing fees. The program also offers complimentary access to fifty-seven atomic business capabilities such as membership systems, merchant coupons, Sesame Credit, and leasing tools.
Prior Traction and WAIC Partnership
Alipay's AI Pay — a payment solution that enables secure and seamless payment through AI agents — previously exceeded 120 million transactions in a single week, which Alipay described as the world's first AI agentic payment service to reach that milestone. In July 2026, at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference, foundation model company StepFun and Alipay announced a system-level partnership powered by AHA, allowing users to access Ah Bao's services through StepFun's AI-native terminal or its large language model (LLM).
Executive Commentary
"Agentic commerce is poised for rapid growth over the next 6 to 12 months. AI agents will become a new interface connecting hundreds of millions of users with tens of millions of merchants, unlocking a new intent-driven commercial ecosystem," said Cyril Han, Chief Executive Officer of Ant Group.
