Unitree Robotics Surges 460% in Shanghai IPO, Becomes First Listed Humanoid Robot Maker in Mainland China

The Hangzhou-based robotics company raised $905 million at a $9 billion IPO valuation on the STAR Market, setting the first public pricing benchmark for the humanoid robotics sector in mainland China.

Market Debut

Unitree Robotics shares surged 460% in their Shanghai trading debut after the company raised 6.1 billion yuan ($904 million) in an initial public offering (IPO), becoming the first listed humanoid robot maker in mainland China. Shares of the Hangzhou-based company, officially known as Yushu Technology Co., rose by as much as 629% to 1,100 yuan from the IPO price of 150.8 yuan, before paring some gains. The opening pop gave way to a pullback later in the session, with the stock closing at 845 yuan — still a 460% gain on day one, leaving the company with a market valuation of about 342 billion yuan.

That first-day gain exceeded the average opening-day pop of 279% for new listings in China so far this year, and came even as China's benchmark index fell 3% on the day. About 23.2 billion yuan worth of Unitree shares changed hands during the debut.

IPO Structure and Demand

Unitree Robotics, the Hangzhou-based company behind some of China's most recognizable quadruped and humanoid robots, listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange's STAR Market. The IPO was oversubscribed more than 8,000 times, a record for the city's tech-focused STAR Market, which is seen as China's version of the Nasdaq. The company priced its IPO at 150.8 yuan ($22.34) per share on August 6, 2026, putting its total valuation at approximately 61 billion yuan, or about $9.04 billion.

Among the IPO's backers was Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) company DeepSeek, which put in about 140.8 million yuan according to a company filing, while Tencent holds a stake as a prior investor. Additional investors include top venture capital firms such as Sequoia China, Matrix Partners China, and Shenzhen Capital Group, as well as Meituan, Alibaba Group Holding, Ant Group, and China Mobile.

Financials and Product Portfolio

Overall revenue more than quadrupled to 1.7 billion yuan (about $252 million) in 2025, while humanoid robots generated 867.8 million yuan (about $129 million) in sales and overtook four-legged robots as the company's largest business. Unlike many AI and robotics startups that often burn cash to fund growth, Unitree has reported consistent profitability, generating nearly 1.7 billion yuan in revenue for 2025 with an adjusted net profit of approximately 600 million yuan.

Gross margin of Unitree's core business rose to 60% in 2025 from 44% in 2022, driven by full-stack in-house development and production; the company manufactures its own key components, including motors, reducers, encoders, and dexterous hands, with purchased parts accounting for only 14% to 18% of total cost. Since gaining early recognition for cost-effective quadruped robots, the company has transitioned to developing advanced humanoid models such as the G1, H1, and R1.

Wang Xingxing, the company's 36-year-old founder, holds about 121.4 million shares, putting his net worth at about 103 billion yuan at market close.

Competitive Landscape

Unitree's main competitors include China's AgiBot and US-based Tesla and Boston Dynamics (Boston Dynamics Atlas). Unitree and AgiBot together accounted for more than 70% of the approximately 13,000 humanoid robots shipped globally last year, according to Singapore-based market research firm Omdia.

Figure, America's most valuable humanoid startup, raised money last September at a $39 billion valuation. UBTech, the one humanoid maker already public in Hong Kong, delivers robots at a similar scale to Unitree and loses roughly 700 million yuan a year doing it.

In its prospectus, Unitree flagged risks including the possibility that international rivals such as Tesla could use economies of scale to drive down costs and intensify price competition, and that large-scale commercialization of humanoid robots could continue to face challenges from technical reliability, production costs, and market acceptance.

Policy Context

The Chinese government has been actively encouraging the sector, with national and provincial-level initiatives targeting robotics and AI as strategic industries, providing subsidies, favorable regulatory treatment, and procurement pipelines. The listing arrived as the World Robot Conference opened in Beijing, drawing hundreds of companies — predominantly Chinese — to show off new products. "Unitree IPO is regarded as a key milestone for the humanoid industry and can serve as a benchmark for other IPOs in the pipeline," said Ethan Qi, associate director at market analysis firm Counterpoint Research.
