Anthropic on April 17, 2026 released Claude Design, a new product from its Anthropic Labs incubation group that allows users to generate visual assets, including prototypes, slide decks, one-pagers, and marketing materials, through a conversational interface. The company described the tool as letting users collaborate with Claude to create polished visual work, powered by its most capable vision model, Claude Opus 4.7, and available in research preview.
Product capabilities
Users begin a project by describing what they want in natural language, uploading reference documents, or pointing Claude at an existing codebase. Inputs can include text prompts, images and documents in DOCX, PPTX, and XLSX formats, or a web capture tool that grabs elements directly from a live website so prototypes match the real product.
Once a draft is generated, users can comment inline on specific elements, edit text directly, or use adjustment knobs to tweak spacing, color, and layout live, then ask Claude to apply changes across the full design. Custom sliders, generated by Claude itself, allow users to adjust spacing, color and layout in real time.
A central feature is automated brand enforcement. During onboarding, Claude builds a design system for a team by reading its codebase and design files. Teams can refine these components and maintain more than one design system.
Finished work can be exported anywhere — shared as an internal URL within an organization, saved as a folder, or exported to Canva, PDF, PPTX, or standalone HTML files. Designs can also be packaged into handoff bundles for Claude Code to bridge prototyping and production.
Distribution and access
Claude Design is available for Claude Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Access is included with the plan and uses existing subscription limits, with the option to continue beyond those limits by enabling extra usage. For Enterprise organizations, Claude Design is off by default and admins must enable it in Organization settings.
Canva partnership
The launch deepens an existing partnership with Canva. Claude Design uses Canva's Design Engine and Visual Suite to let users go from a text description to a fully editable, on-brand visual without opening Canva. Once teams create presentation decks or prototypes, they can export them as PDFs, URLs, PPTX files, or send them to Canva, where they become fully editable and collaborative. Anthropic has stated the two tools are intended to complement rather than compete with one another.
Organizational context
Claude Design is the latest product from Anthropic Labs, the experimental division co-led by Instagram co-founder Mike Krieger and Anthropic veteran Ben Mann. The team was formally expanded in January 2026, with Krieger moving from his role as Chief Product Officer to focus on frontier product incubation.
The launch follows a series of enterprise-oriented releases from the company. Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6 in February 2026, launched Cowork as a persistent agentic workspace in January 2026, and introduced Managed Agents in April 2026 for deploying cloud-hosted agents at scale. The underlying model, Claude Opus 4.7, was released the day before Claude Design and is described by Anthropic as its most capable vision model to date, with improved performance on graphic design tasks and image analysis.
